The City of Covington’s Parks and Recreation Department is now open for registration for Spring and Summer classes and camps. Programs will run from April-August 2019. Music 
ROCK 'N' MORE GROUP GUITAR CLASS
Learn guitar and hone your skills in a fun group setting with Dace's Rock 'n' More Music Academy. Students will learn basic music and guitar fundamentals while learning how to play popular songs. Guitars will be provided for each student. Scholarships are available, please email jball@covingtonwa.gov to inquire.

BEGINNING UKELELE
In this Ukulele class for beginners, instructor Thomas Gurnard from Dace’s Rock “n” Music Academy will use fun games and well-known songs to teach the fundamentals of melody, harmony and rhythm. Students do not need to own a ukulele to take this class, instruments are provided.


Library Programs
STORY TIME IN THE PARK
Bring your blanket and enjoy 30 minutes of stories, songs and movement activities at Covington Community Park. If it rains or exceeds 85 degrees or the air quality is deemed sensitive, story time will relocate to the Covington Library.


Astronomy and Nature
SEATTLE ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY
The community is invited to sail the Milky Way with local astronomers who will provide star gazing expertise along with access to telescopes, binoculars and star charts. Explore the Moon, the planets, constellations, stars, clusters and galaxies that each season’s night scape presents. Dress warmly and bring a small flashlight (red filters are provided). Children with parental supervision are welcome and astronomers will bring the stars alive for small ones. Inclement, cloudy weather (more than a few isolated clouds) will likely cause cancellation. Star parties are free and open to the public at Covington Community Park. Cancellation notification will be posted at the Seattle Astronomical Society website at www.seattleastro.org. Otherwise look to the sky before you come.

BIRD WALK
Join Friends of Soos Creek Park volunteer guides as they lead you on an interpretive walk looking and listening for over 100 species of birds, including the great horned owl,pileated woodpecker and wood duck.

ETHNOBOTANY WALK
To native people, everything in nature has a use. Learn about the native peoples' medicinal, food, clothing, shelter, tools, and houseware uses of the plants living around you.

WALKING MEDITATION
Come learn an entirely new way to experience and enjoy nature. These guided walks cultivate a peaceful mind and joyful heart that can help you better appreciate and enjoy the beauty of our natural surroundings.

 BAT WALK
Come learn about and observe examples of the ten species of bats living in Soos Creek Park. Children are welcome with parental supervision.


Safety Classes
SAFE AT HOME
This two-hour course is designed for children ages 8-12 to learn about potential dangers when home alone. Learn how to be responsible and safe in any situation. We cover family communication, first aid, internet, gun, phone, fire and door safety.

 SUPER SITTERS
Boys and girls,come for a day of fun while earning your Super Sitters Certificate.This class will cover leadership, the business of babysitting, basic care for children,understanding children of different age groups, safety and first aid. Bring a sack lunch and snack to class.


Culinary
MARVELOUS MACAROONS
Learn to make your own fancy and beautiful French macaroon cookies! With endless color, flavor and filling choices, this little cookie is exciting and fun to make. In this hands-on class you will mix, bake and create your own macaroons from scratch. You will take home lifetime skills to impress in the kitchen, as well as all the cookies you make in class! Please wear close-toed, nonskid shoes. Student may bring an apron and water bottle if desired.


Art Classes
CHEETAH AFTER SCHOOL ART
Join us on early release Wednesdays for creative art time. Bring your imagination and love for art! We will create a new project each week. Register early as this class does fill up quickly! This class is only available for Cedar Valley Elementary School students.


Preschool Programs
PLAYTIME PALS
Enjoy time with your child singing, learning, getting messy and playing in an inclusive preschool class led by an early childhood specialist. Children will develop friendships with a wide variety of peers, some of whom have special needs.


Fitness Classes
53 SQUAD YOUTH TRAINING
This training is led by multi-sport professional athlete Demitrius Bronson and has been developed with principles he learned during his time in the NFL and WWE to train like an athlete. Geared towards youth ages 9-12 to become or grow as an athlete, you will workout in a group and will train like athletes.

 Sports Skills
EBI SKILLS & DRILLS
Why choose EBI for your child's basketball training? One word: FUNdamentals! Your child will learn ball handling confidence, shooting confidence, and all around abilities. EBI will challenge your child, but also encourage and support them in a fun environment! With EBI, character development is as essential as individual basketball skills.

 PRO BASEBALL PRIVATE LESSONS
Under the direction of Steve Goucher, these private one-on-one lessons will provide quality instruction on throwing, hitting and fielding. Lessons are 30 minutes in length. The specific time frame will be scheduled through Steve Goucher at goucher15@gmail.com.


Gymnastics
AUBURN GYMNASTICS
At Auburn Gymnastics, coaches instruct gymnasts throughfvarious skills in a safe and fun manner. Gymnasts will also learn strength, balance and positive self image. Please wear flexible attire free of zippers, buttons and snaps. All classes are held at Auburn Gymnastics at 1604 15th St SW, Suite 106 in Auburn.

 TINY STARS - 1-3 years
This class is designed to introduce coordination, physical development and socialization to young gymnasts. This class also includes parent participation! Gymnasts must be able to walk.

 MINI STARS - 4 years
In this class, gymnasts will be introduced to the basic concepts of gymnastics, balance and strength in a fun-filled environment

 MIGHTY STARS - 5-6 years
Mighty Stars will be challenged with more advanced gymnastics concepts in a fun and positive environment.

 GIRLS BEGINNER - 7-12 years
In this introductory school-aged program, gymnasts will learn the basics on all four apparatus in a positive and safe environment.


Kidz Love Soccer
This program provides kids with a positive framework where all players are nurtured, built up and developed as young athletes. A typical class includes activities like warm-ups, skill introductions, games and scrimmages conducted in a non-competitive, recreational format. All participants will receive a Kidz Love Soccer jersey.

 MOMMY/DADDY & ME SOCCER
Introduce your toddler to the world's most popular sport! As you and your child participate in fun, age-appropriate activities, your child will develop their large motor and socializing skills. The fun happens on the field and parents are a part of the action!

 TOT & PRE-SOCCER
Enjoy running and kicking just like the big kids! Participants will learn basic techniques while building self-esteem and learning to follow instructions in a nurturing teaching environment. Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

 SOCCER 1: TECHNIQUES & TEAMWORK
Players will learn how to dribble, pass, play defense and shoot goals! Fun skill games are played at every session and small-sided soccer matches will be introduced gradually. Shin guards are required after the first meeting.


Dance/Cheer

PRE-BALLET - 3-4 years
This is an introductory dance class for 3-4 year olds, full of fun, music and moving! Your blossoming dancer will have a blast learning the basics of ballet. The fundamentals of body awareness, coordination, rhythm, and beginning terminology will be introduced. Ballet shoes are required.

 DANCE COMBO I - 5-6 years
This is a beginning dance class for students ages 5-6. Dancers will learn to properly execute classical and contemporary dance steps and techniques. They will also train to understand rhythm and musicality. Ballet or jazz shoes are required.

 DANCE COMBO II - 7-8 years
Dance Combo II is a fun class for 7-8 year olds, that includes a variety of dance genres. Dancers will learn beginning ballet, jazz, and pom techniques, as well as learn more advanced skills and tricks. Ballet or jazz shoes are required.

THIRAK BOLLYWOOD DANCE I
Young dancers will be introduced to the basic Bollywood movements where kids will learn to develop dance technique while focusing on the basic hand and leg movement coordination, motor skills and listening abilities as they relate to the fun and popular Bollywood music. New this season, kids will also learn basic movements to a selected most popular Indian Regional Dance forms like Bhangra, Dandiya, or Bharatanatyam & Garba during each season. A recital to be scheduled on the last day of the session. Comfortable attire is recommend and going barefoot works. For the recital, costumes and props will be provided for an additional rental cost of $20 per participant.

THIRAK BOLLYWOOD DANCE II
Dancers will learn both basic and challenging movements to the most popular upbeat and energetic Bollywood music where kids learn to develop dance technique, while focusing on hand and leg coordination, musical timing, spacing, and precision. New this season, kids will learn basic movements to a selected most popular Indian Regional Dance forms like Bhangra, Dandiya, or Bharatanatyam & Garba during each season. A recital to be scheduled on the last day of the session. Comfortable attire is recommend and going barefoot works. For the recital, costumes and props will be provided for an additional rental cost of $20 per participant.

 SOUTH ELITE REC CHEER
Students will learn dances, cheers and beginning tumbling in this class. There will be opportunities to perform too! The team will perform at community events like football games, basketball game half-times, showcases, and local parades and festivals. There is a one-time fee to be paid to South Elite for a performance outfit.

 DADDY DAUGHTER SPRING FLING
Spend an evening with a special date while you enjoy dancing to the music from a live DJ and refreshments. There will be a dance contest and a photographer to capture this special night with pictures. Grandpas, big brothers and uncles are welcome, too! Located at Kentwood High School Commons. Prices go up $5 at the door, so register early!


Martial Arts
PRESCHOOL KARATE
Preschool karate is a non-contact class where students will learn the basic techniques of karate.

 KIDS BEGINNER KARATE I
This class is an ongoing introduction to self-defense for children. Students will receive step-by-step instruction in the basics of karate. Warm-up exercises will increase fitness and flexibility and practices will teach fundamental karate skills that develop confidence and positive personal growth. There is a one-time uniform fee of $40 due to the instructor on the first day of class.

 KIDS BEGINNER KARATE II
This class is a continuation for students who have completed the intro class and will expand on the skills and exercises learned there.


KIDS KARATE
This class teaches step-by-step instructions on the basics of Okinawan Karate.


Ninja Kids
NINJA KIDS
This class will focus on core strength, body control, team work, team challenges and basic tumbling skills. It is a great place to start your ninja warrior career through play and fun. Classes are held at South Elite All Stars 1222 6th Ave N. Kent, WA 98032

PRINCESS TRAINING
This beginning tumbling class is for all our little princesses. Learn beginning tumbling while attending class dressed as your favorite princess!

NINJA FLIPS & TRICKS - GIRLS
This is class is for girls only! Come and work with our coach to learn new flips and tricks that you can use to navigate the Ninja Obstacle course. This 30-minute class will focus on beginning level tumbling skills, flips, and tricks.

Spring Break Camp

SPRING BREAK SOCCER CAMP
Each day we will practice skills such as dribbling, shooting, passing, receiving and more! All skill levels are welcome. We will end the day with a scrimmage and fun games. Each participant will receive a camp t-shirt. Please dress for the weather and bring a lunch, snack and water bottle. Shin guards are required.

STEAM Music Camp
SUPERSONIC SOUND SUMMER CAMP
Dace's Rock 'n' More Music Academy and Steamboat. Studio are combining forces and resources for a first-of its- kind day camp. You'll spend about half of each day rocking out with Rock 'n' More Music Academy and about half of each day learning about the science and art behind the music. The camp culminates with a final gallery to showcase what students have been working on. With Rock 'n' More you'll learn about many genres of music and the instruments that are used to play them. Then you'll learn to play a song or two, start a band, and perform for family and friends at the end of the week. With Steamboat Studio you'll make music-inspired artwork, play with color and light, "slow down" a guitar string, make patterns with your voice, and design a logo and poster for your band! Culinary Camps
GOURMET CUPCAKE CAMP
Ever dreamt of making beautiful gourmet cupcakes yourself? In this hands-on camp you will mix, bake and decorate a different fancy cupcake each day from scratch. On the last day of camp, we will hold our very own Cupcake Wars to put your newly learned skills to the test. The winner will take home a special prize! Please wear close toed, non-slip shoes. Students may bring an apron and water bottle.

TEEN COOKING CAMP
Headed off to college soon or just wanting to learn the skills to make yourself real food? This hands-on camp will teach you basic knife skills and how to prepare delicious whole foods from scratch using easy to follow recipes, including homemade guacamole, healthier baked tortilla chips, eggs, pancakes, pizza, easy gourmet toasted cheese, and more! We will end each day with a meal of everything you make in class! Please wear close toed, nonslip shoes. Students may bring an apron and water bottle.


Fitness & Sports Camps

EBI BALL HANDLING CAMP
Develop and improve your confidence in handling the basketball. This camp is great for all skill levels and positions. Campers will be divided by age and ability to enhance their learning experience. Camp includes contests, games, skill work, drills, a camp t-shirt and more!

53 SQUAD TRAINING YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP
Come and train with multi-sport professional Demitrius Bronson! This camp has been shaped with principles he learned throughout his career in both the NFL and WWE.Kids will learn football fundamentals, drills and training tips.This group setting will allow kids to train just like the pros!

KENTWOOD YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMP
Join Kentwood HS coaches and players as they provide age-appropriate instruction designed to help kids master football fundamentals. They will learn key elements of the game including teamwork and good sportsmanship with speed and game-based drills. This is a non-contact youth development program for all skill levels. Complimentary meal included on the last day of camp. Wear shorts, t-shirt and sports shoes and bring a water bottle with name on it.

KENTWOOD TRACK & FIELD CAMP
Campers will be exposed to all event areas of Track and Field and will have multiple opportunities to learn and practice. This camp is run by Rob Thomas, the head Track and Field coach at Kentwood High School, as well as assistant coaches and current and former Kentwood athletes. Parents are encouraged to come on Thursday for the camp track meet. Register by June 7 to guarantee a camp t-shirt. Daily snacks will be provided.

XTREME SPEED TRACK CLUB CLINIC
Participants will receive hands-on teaching on how to properly run and develop speed to apply to all sports. This clinic is run by Rob Thomas, President of Xtreme Speed Track Club and head track and field coach at Kentwood High School, along with other certified coaches and nationally ranked athletes. Each participant will receive a t-shirt.

PRO BASEBALL CAMP
This camp is well suited for all players, from aspiring to elite. Instructor Steve Goucher is a former professional baseball player and Atlanta Braves scout with over 15 years of experience instructing baseball at all levels. Many of his students have gone on to play college baseball and a few even made it to the big leagues!

KARATE SUMMER CAMP
This camp, run by Hawks Family Martial Arts, will combine martial arts practices with outdoor activity and obstacles.

DANCE CAMP
Dancers will learn how to properly execute dance technique, skills, tricks and cute dance routines! We will include a variety of genres such as ballet, jazz, pom and hip hop. A camp t-shirt is included. Parents are invited for a dance showcase on Thursday from 1:30-2 p.m.

CIRCUS ARTS CAMP
Participants will explore body movements and work on acrobatics, juggling, low tightwire, ball walking, and more! No previous experience needed. Students will get to show off their new skills at the "End of Camp Show" to friends and family on the last day.

Skyhawks Camps

SKYHAWKS CHEERLEADING CAMP
Skyhawks Cheerleading teaches girls the essential skills to lead crowds and support the home team! Each cheerleader learns proper hand & body movements and jumping techniques. The week concludes with a choreographed performance.

SKYHAWKS MINI-HAWK CAMP
Skyhawks multi-sport programs are tailored to age and skill level while teaching life lessons such as respect and team work. Tiny-Hawk™ and Mini-Hawk® programs give children age 4-6 years a fun and positive first step into athletics.

SKYHAWKS SOCCER CAMP

This fun, skill-intensive program is designed for beginning to intermediate athletes. An active week of passing, shooting, dribbling and rebounding makes this one of our most popular programs. Boys and girls will also learn vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork and responsibility.

SKYHAWKS FLAG FOOTBALL CAMP
Boys and girls learn skills on both sides of the football including the core components of passing, catching and defense - all in a fun and positive environment.


Gymnastics Camps

PRESCHOOL COED GYMNASTICS CAMP
This camp is focused on beginning gymnastics as well as summer fun. Gymnasts will spend time on every event, enjoy a morning snack, do crafts and participate in organized games. Campers should bring a water bottle each day.

YOUTH COED GYMNASTICS CAMP
This camp will focus on development of skills, technique and fun on all events. There will also be organized games, relays, movies, snacks and crafts. Campers need to bring a pair of socks and an extra set of clothing so they can play in water on nice days! Campers should also bring a water bottle each day.

HARRY POTTER MAGICAL ENGINEERING
Explore the magic of Harry Potter using LEGO®! Find Platform 9 ¾, build Hogwarts Express Train, work to construct Hogwarts Castle, and challenge the Hungarian Horntail Dragon. Hone your magical skills while learning about Muggle (STEM) concepts.

HARRY POTTER MASTER ENGINEERING
Master the magic of Harry Potter using LEGO®! Build Diagon Alley in preparation for your trip to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hop on your Broomstick and play Quidditch, duel the evil Lord Voldemort, and hone your magical skills while learning about advanced Muggle (STEM) concepts.

PAPER ENGINEERING ART CAMP
Engineer your favorite Star Wars and Harry Potter characters and explore traditional paper origami. Paper engineering is a great way of visualizing shapes, building math skills following directions, growing interpersonal skills, and developing fine motor skills.

iGAME CREATORS CAMP
Want to learn to build simple video games. This course combines the art of video game design and animation to create interactive characters that fly around the screen. Amaze your friends and family with your fun interactive games.

ANIMATION CAMP
Students will learn the basics of animation and digital design. This class will utilize award-winning animation software and students will create fun interactive animations that they can share with the world.

ROBLOX STUDIO PROGRAMMING & GAMING
ROBLOX Studio is a 3D-based program that uses physics, LUA programming, and individual creativity to build a world around you and your avatar. This course will guide students through concepts such as beginner physics, LUA programming, and game development. Students will build and publish their game to share with friends and family!

VIDEO GAME DESIGN CAMP
Get a fun, interactive look at the world of video game design and development. Learn the basics of video game design and produce several different interactive video games to share with their friends and family.

MOVIE MAKERS CAMP
This hands-on, interactive course will instruct students on the world of digital video design and production. Students will film, direct and edit their own digital video creations. Students enrolled in this course will amaze their peers with green screen and special effects work.

APPLICATION DESIGN CAMP
Get a hands-on look at the world of application design and development. Students will design their own app which can be shared with friends and family members with an Apple or Android device.

iCODE CAMP
This course makes learning to code fun and explores problem solving and programming logic. Students will have access to their accounts so the learning does not end at the door. Students will create virtual apps and write their own programs that they can share with friends and family. Students should be able to read prior to taking this course.

GAMING AND CODING CAMP
This course combines two experiences for students, gaming and coding. Students spend the morning taking an interactive look at coding and building virtual apps to share with friends. In the afternoon, students build simple video games combing the art of video game design and animation to create interactive characters that fly around the screen. Bring a sack lunch!

3D GAME DESIGN CAMP
This awesome 3D video game design course offers the chance for students to create and immerse themselves in a 3D world. If you are looking to design professional 3D games that both look and feel just like the ones you play at home, then you don't want to miss this course!

THE GAMING ACADEMY
During this course students will be immersed into the world of 2D and 3D game design. The gaming academy is a combo of our Video Game Design, Advanced Game Design and 3D Game Design courses. Students will get a variety of hands-on experience designing and building their very own games. Bring a sack lunch!

Fitness, Classes & Events

TEEN/ADULT BEGINNER KARATE

WOMEN'S SELF DEFENSE CLASS
This class is designed to make you more aware, prepared and assertive. It will cover verbal confrontation skills, safety strategies and physical techniques to ensure you "go home safe". This class is taught by Hawks Family Martial Arts.

This women's only fun-filled class class begins with a warm-up which includes basic Bollywood moves followed by step-by-step choreography set to Bollywood music. BEGINNING BELLY DANCE
Learn basic belly dance moves and combinations that involve the whole body to authentic music. Develop stamina, muscle control, and better posture in a warm,welcoming atmosphere. Belly dance is known to be one of the oldest art forms and is for women of all sizes and ages, no dance experience necessary. Wear something easy to move in and bring a hip scarf if you have one.
