City Accepting Applications for IIT (Independent Investigative Team) Members

As part of the Law Enforcement Training and Community Safety Act that became effective in Washington State this year, police agencies must develop an IIT (Independent Investigation Team) to conduct independent investigations when the use of deadly force by a police officer results in death or great bodily harm.

As a contract city with the King County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Covington will select two individuals to serve on the IIT. These individuals will be non-law enforcement community representatives that represent the impacted community where the incident occurred.

Covington is currently accepting applications to submit two individuals to the county for the IIT.
