The City of Covington’s Parks and Recreation Department is now open for registration for Winter classes. Programs will run from January-March 2019. Become a photographer with Hele! Students will master camera operations and practice skills to capture beautiful artistic photos on a journey to develop their own photography business. We will explore landscape photography, portraiture, action shots and still life photography through immersive activities and art critiques. Students will learn how to establish their brand and build a polished portfolio of digital images to market online while developing social media safety skills! The course includes a 6-month subscription to the Hele Hui, where students interact with one another in weekly challenges. Come learn about and see the four owl species that live in Soos Creek Park. After a 45-minute talk indoors, we will head out into the park to locate and view owls in their natural habitat through night scopes. Dress warm with layers! Located at the Maintenance Building on 148th Ave.

Learn to bake beautiful Conversation Heart themed Royal Icing sugar cookies, that taste and look marvelous! In this hands-on class, you will learn to make sugar cookie dough from scratch, with real butter. As well as how to make and decorate cookies with Royal Icing. Everything created in class will be taken home, including recipes, cookies, and awesome skills. Fun, and festive packaging will be provided if you desire to give your cookies as gifts for Valentine’s Day. Your instructor is a professionally trained pastry Chef, with an AAS in Professional Pastry & Baking. She emphasizes teaching proper safety, and sanitation in the kitchen, as well as giving kids the life skills to make, and create quality foods of their own. She owns Because Good Food Matters, a company that offers educational baking classes to children in her local community.

Safety Classes:
This two-hour course is designed for children ages 8-12 to learn about potential dangers when home alone. Learn how to be responsible and safe in any situation. We cover family communication, first aid, internet, gun, phone, fire and door safety.

Boys and girls, come for a day of fun while earning your Super Sitters Certificate. This class will cover leadership, the business of babysitting, basic care for children, understanding children of different age groups, safety and first aid. Bring a sack lunch and snack to class.

Art Classes:
Come and enjoy some time with your child rediscovering your creative artist by learning new mixed-media techniques and exploring a variety of art using mark making, layering with paper materials, painting, doodling, and much more! Join us on early release Wednesdays for creative art time. Bring your imagination and love for art! We will create a new project each week. Register early as this class does fill up quickly! This class is only available for Cedar Valley Elementary School students.

In this one-hour class, you'll make at least two fun origami projects on early-release Wednesdays. Origami is a great way of visualizing shapes, building math skills, following directions, growing interpersonal skills, and developing fine motor skills. Class themes: January - Blow It Up Origami; February - Origami Flowers; and March - Origami Animals.

Tech Classes:
iGAME CREATORS Want to create video games? This is an introductory course for younger students who want to learn to build simple video games. This course combines the art of video game design and animation to create interactive characters that fly around the screen. Amaze your friends and family with your fun interactive games!

This course offers younger students a fun, interactive look at coding. Students will create virtual apps and write their own programs that they can share with friends and family. This course makes learning to code fun and explores problem solving and programming logic. Students will have access to their accounts so the learning does not end at the door. Students should be able to read prior to taking this class.

iGAMING AND CODING - COMBO CLASS Want more fun and learning at a discounted rate? Sign up for this course and take iGame Creators and iCode together! This course combines two unbelieveable experiences for students, gaming and coding! Students spend the morning building simple video games, combining the art of video game design with animation. In the afternoon, students will take an interactive look at coding, building virtual apps to share with friends and family. Students are encouraged to bring a sack lunch.

MOVIE MAKERS CAMP- Come hang out with us over President's Break! This hands-on, interactive course will instruct students on the world of digital video design and production. Students will film, direct, and edit their own digital video creations. Students enrolled in this course will amaze their peers with green screen and special effects work!

VIDEO DESIGN CAMP-This course provides students with a fun interactive look at the world of video game design and development. Students enrolled in this four day camp will learn the basics of video game design and produce several different interactive video games to share with their friends and family.

Preschool Programs:
Enjoy time with your child singing, learning, getting messy and playing in an inclusive preschool class led by an early childhood specialist. Children will develop friendships with a wide variety of peers, some of whom have special needs.

Kids will learn to develop technique while focusing on the basic hand and leg movement coordination, motor skills and listening abilities as they relate to the fun and popular Bollywood music. The class recital is scheduled on March 27 at 6 p.m., an additional $20 fee is due to instructor to rent recital costumes.

Kids will learn to develop dance technique while focusing on hand and leg coordination, musical timing, spacing and precision. It's women only in this one hour, fun-filled Bollywood dance class. This class begins with a warm-up which includes basic Bollywood moves followed by step-by-step choreography set to Bollywood music. The combination of steps learned by participants will strengthen their awareness of musical flow, timing, spacing, and precision. The participants will establish a strong movement foundation while developing confidence, coordination, posture and grace. Comfortable attire is recommended and going barefoot works best. PRE-BALLET - 3-5 years
This is an introductory dance class for 3-5 year olds, full of fun, music and moving! Your blossoming dancer will have a blast learning the basics of ballet. The fundamentals of body awareness, coordination, rhythm, and beginning terminology will be introduced. Dance shoes are recommended.

DANCE COMBO I - 5-7 years
This is a beginning dance class for students ages 5-7. Dancers will learn to properly execute classical and contemporary dance steps and techniques. They will also train to understand rhythm and musicality. Dance shoes are recommended.

DANCE COMBO II - 8-12 years
Dance Combo II is a fun class for 8-12 year olds, that includes a variety of dance genres. Dancers will learn beginning ballet, jazz, and pom techniques, as well as learn more advanced skills and tricks. Ballet or jazz shoes are required.

Students will learn dances, cheers and beginning tumbling in this class. There will be opportunities to perform too! The team will perform at community events like football games, basketball game half-times, showcases, and local parades and festivals. There is a one-time fee to be paid to South Elite for a performance outfit.

At Auburn Gymnastics, coaches instruct gymnasts through various skills in a safe and fun manner. Gymnasts will also learn strength, balance and positive self image. Please wear flexible attire free of zippers, buttons and snaps. All classes are held at Auburn Gymnastics at 1604 15th St SW, Suite 106 in Auburn.

TINY STARS - 1-3 years This class is designed to introduce coordination, physical development and socialization to young gymnasts. This class also includes parent participation! Gymnasts must be able to walk.

MINI STARS - 4-5 years In this class, gymnasts will be introduced to the basic concepts of gymnastics, balance and strength in a funfilled environment.

MIGHTY STARS - 5-6 years Mighty Stars will be challenged with more advanced gymnastics concepts in a fun and positive environment.

GIRLS BEGINNER - 7-12 years In this introductory school-aged program, gymnasts will learn the basics on all four apparatus in a positive and safe environment.

Martial Arts
The toddler obstacle course is an ever changing obstacle course combined with games to help toddlers learn coordination by climbing, walking, balancing, jumping and running while learning about colors,letters, and numbers.

PRESCHOOL KARATE PreSchool Karate is a non contact Pre-School karate class where students will learn the basic techniques of karate.

KIDS BEGINNER KARATE I This class is an ongoing introduction to self defense for children. Students will receive step-by-step instruction in the basics of karate. Warm-up exercises will increase fitness and flexibility and practices will teach fundamental karate skills that develop confidence and positive personal growth. There is a one-time uniform fee of $40 due to the instructor on the first day of class.

KIDS BEGINNER KARATE II This class is a continuation for students who have completed the intro class and will expand on the skills and exercises learned there.

NINJA KIDS This class will focus on core strength, body control, team work, team challenges and basic tumbling skills. It is a great place to start your ninja warrior career through play and fun. Classes are held at South Elite All Stars 1222 6th Ave N. Kent, WA 98032

PRINCESS TRAINING This beginning tumbling class is for all our little princesses. Learn beginning tumbling while attending class dressed as your favorite princess!

NINJA FLIPS & TRICKS This is class is for boys only! Come and work with our coach to learn new flips and tricks that you can use to navigate the Ninja Obstacle course. This 30 minute class will focus on beginning level tumbling skills, flips, and tricks.

Covington Parks and Recreation has teamed up with Synapse Circus Center to provide you with the opportunity to walk a tightwire, juggle and learn other amazing skills. In Circus Arts, you will learn balance, acrobatics, object manipulation and so much more! Students will get to demonstrate their new skills at the End of Session Show on the last day. No previous experience is required. Students should wear comfortable clothes that aren't too baggy. Please no zippers or buckles. Students may go barefoot or wear socks or gym/ballet shoes. Kidz Love Soccer:
This program provides kids with a positive framework where all players are nurtured, built up and developed as young athletes. A typical class includes activities like warm-ups, skill introductions, games and scrimmages conducted in a non-competitive, recreational format. All participants will receive a Kidz Love Soccer jersey!

Introduce your toddler to the world's most popular sport! As you and your child participate in fun, age-appropriate activities, your child will develop their large motor and socializing skills. The fun happens on the field and parents are a part of the action!

Enjoy running and kicking just like the big kids! Participants will learn basic techniques while building self-esteem and learning to follow instructions in a nurturing teaching environment. Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Players will learn how to dribble, pass, play defense and shoot goals! Fun skill games are played at every session and small-sided soccer matches will be introduced gradually. Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Our village is YOUR place to support, connect and empower. Our village supports all moms in all stages of motherhood. Each week, activities are scheduled for your kiddo to play with other children, use various toys and equipment, read stories, do crafts and have fun! This is a drop-in group.

Do you remember how much fun you had in art class when you were a kid? Come rediscover your creative self by learning new mixed-media techniques and exploring a variety or art using mark making, layering with paper materials, painting, and much more. You will use an artist journal to collect your samples for your creative exploration and reflections. Bring your own journal or purchase one in class for a one-time fee of $16.

In this one-time class, you'll learn the basics of tatting using a single shuttle as well as how to use two shuttles. You'll also learn how to create greeting cards and bookmarks with your tatting pieces. There is an additional $10 material fee due on the day of the class to cover materials and supplies for the projects.
