The City of Covington’s Parks and Recreation Department is now open for registration Fall classes and camps. Programs will run from September through December. We encourage participants to register early for a program you would like to join. Please call the Covington Parks and Recreation office at (253) 480-2480  or click on the activity below to register for classes.

Parent and Kids Night Out- OCTOBER 13th Session CANCELLED
Parents enjoy a night out, kid free! Kids come make new friends while playing games and doing crafts. We will serve pizza for dinner and watch a movie in the theater. You’ll have a blast! Kids must be potty trained and have no separation anxiety.

Astronomy and Nature

Seattle Astronomical Star Party
The community is invited to sail the Milky Way with local astronomers who will provide star gazing expertise along with access to telescopes, binoculars and star charts. Explore the Moon, the planets, constellations, stars, clusters and galaxies that each season’s night scape presents. Dress warmly and bring a small flashlight (red filters are provided). Children with parental supervision are welcome and astronomers will bring the stars alive for small ones. Inclement, cloudy weather (more than a few isolated clouds) will likely cause cancellation. Star parties are free and open to the public at Covington Community Park. Cancellation notification will be posted at the Seattle Astronomical Society website at Otherwise look to the sky before you come.

Christmas Bird Count
Participate in the Audubon Society annual Christmas Bird Count  with experienced bird counters. 

Safety Classes 

Safe at Home
This 2-hour course is designed for children ages 8-12 to learn about potential dangers when home alone. Learn how to be responsible and safe in any situation. We cover family communication, first aid, internet, gun, phone, fire, and door safety. Located at the Covington City Hall Community Room. 

Super Sitters
Boys and girls, come for a day of fun while earning your Super Sitters certificate. This class will cover leadership and the business of babysitting, basic care for children, understanding children of different age groups, safety, and first aid. Bring a sack lunch and snack to class. Located at the Covington City Hall Community Room

Hart’s gymnastic program is family-friendly while offering the highest quality coaches and staff.  Classes are held at Hart’s Gymnastic Center, 26415 79th Ave S. Kent, WA 98032.

Movement – Ages 16 mos.-3 years
This Parent & Tot class is the ideal place to have organized, safe fun exploring movement with your child in a gymnastic environment.  

Preschool – Ages 3-5
Designed for preschoolers ready to participate without the help of a parent/guardian, this class will continue to explore movement as they go through tunnels, climb over blocks, cross balance beams, and explore the gym.  

Girls – Ages 6-12
Students learn the basics of fun and safe gymnastics while emphasizing basic gymnastic skills, safety, strength, and flexibility. They will expand their skills with use of the trampoline and working on all Olympic 


Pre-Ballet – Ages 4-6 years
This is an introductory class for 4-6 year olds that is full of fun, music and learning. Class will focus on the fundamentals of creative movement and beginner ballet techniques and terminology. Students should bring a water bottle and a smile! Ballet shoes are recommended.

Jazz Ages – 7-9 years
This is a beginning jazz class for 7-9 year olds. Dancers will learn to properly execute classical and contemporary jazz steps and techniques. They will also train to understand rhythm and musicality. Jazz shoes or dance paws are recommended. Bring lots of water!

Dance Team – Ages 10-12 years
Dance team is a fun class for 10-12 year olds involving a variety of dance genres. Dancers will learn ballet, jazz, pom and hip hop techniques, as well as more advanced skills like leaps, jumps and turns. Jazz shoes or dance paws are recommended. Bring lots of water! Located in Covington Community Room. 

Rizzkids – Dance Fitness Frenzy
Join instructor Daisy Larsen for 40 minutes of wiggling to the best music in American pop culture from jazz to country to disco and hip-hop. Students should wear comfortable clothes, tennis shoes and bring lots of water! Visit for more information about Rizzkids. Located in Covington Community Room. 

Kidz Love Soccer
This program provides kids with the positive framework where all players are nurtured, built up and developed as young athletes. A typical class includes activities like warm up, skill introduction, games and scrimmages conducted in a non-competitive, recreational format.

Mommy/Daddy & Me Soccer
Introduce your toddler to the world’s most popular sport. As you and your child participate in fun age-appropriate activities, your child will be developing their large motor skills and socializing skills. The fun happens on the field, and in Mommy/Daddy & Me Soccer parents are a part of the action! Each child receives a Kidz Love Soccer jersey!

Tot & Pre-Soccer
Enjoy running and kicking the ball just like the big kids! Kids will learn basic techniques while building self-esteem and learning to follow instructions in a nurturing teaching environment. Each kid receives a Kidz Love Soccer jersey! Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Soccer 1: Techniques and Teamwork
Players will learn dribbling, passing, defense, and shooting goals! Fun skill games are played at every session and every participant will have a ball at his or her feet. Small-sided soccer matches will be introduced gradually. This class is perfect for first time players but still fun and engaging for kids with some experience. Each participant receives a Kidz Love Soccer jersey! Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Sports/Physical Recreation

Eastside Basketball Institute Skills Beginning Class
This class is targeted for players that are beginning to learn the game of basketball. Players will work on the fundamentals of the game to increase skills in passing, ball handling, shooting, footwork and defense.

Eastside Basketball Institute Skills Intermediate Class
This class is targeted for players at an intermediate skill level.  Improve your offensive and defensive skills in a focused yet fun and intense environment. Your game and team skills will improve under the Shot Doctor’s training. 

Kids Beginner Karate
This class is an ongoing introduction to self-defense for children. Students will receive step-by-step instruction to the basics of karate. Warm-up exercises will help increase fitness and flexibility. Practices will teach fundamental karate skills that help develop confidence and positive personal growth. There is an additional one-time uniform fee of $40.

Ninja Kids
This class will focus on core strength, body control, team work, team challenges, and basic tumbling skills. It is a great place to start your ninja warrior career through play and fun! 

Circus Arts Classes
Ever wanted to walk a tightwire or learn how to juggle? Well, Covington Parks and Recreation and Synapse Circus Center have teamed up to provide you with the chance! In Circus Arts you can learn the basics of all sorts of amazing circus skills: balance, acrobatics, and object manipulation. Handstands, low tightwire and ball walking are used as different types of balance. Acrobatics and human pyramids train students to jump and use momentum. Juggling, object balancing and Chinese Yo-Yo are used in object manipulation and so much more! No previous experience is needed. Students will get to demonstrate their new skills at the End of Session Show the last day. Students are encouraged to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows for full range of movement and is not too baggy. Please no zippers or buckles on clothing as it damages equipment. Students may go barefoot or wear socks or gym/ballet shoes.

The Arts and Sciences

Musikgarten – Family Music for Toddlers
Together we’ll sing, chant, move, dance, listen, and play simple instruments, all activities that bridge the natural connection between music and movement. Additionally, you’ll receive a wonderful CD, a parent activity book, and an instrument or scarf to use at home for more time together. Session 2 is a continuation of Session 1 with new curriculum. A $35 material fee is due to the instructor (paid once per family).

Musikgarten – Preschool Music: Cycle of Seasons
This class was developed to build attention and selfexpression with activities including singing, chanting, moving, focused listening, musical games, exploring musical instruments, creative movement and storytelling. The Cycle of Seasons nurtures your growing child’s ability to use language and participate in dramatic play within a musical context. Family packets including music CDs are included for use at home to increase family involvement in the learning process. Session 2 is a continuation of Session 1 with new curriculum. A $35 material fee is due to the instructor (paid once per family).

Cheetah After School Art
Join us each early release Wednesday for creative art time. We will create a new project each week. Kids should bring their imagination and love of art! Register early as this free class fills quickly.

Fall Camp

Volleyball Camp
Enjoy your day off of school at Volleyball Camp. We will practice skills such as passing, setting, and serving.  All skill levels are welcome. We will end the day with a scrimmage and some fun games. Each participant will receive a camp t-shirt. Please bring a sack lunch, a snack, and a water bottle. Knee pads are required. *This camp will be held at Mattson Middle School.

Winter Break Camps

Chocolate Camp Holiday Edition
The holidays are coming and so is the Traveling Chocolate Company. Join us on a journey in to the world of chocolate and learn to create delicious treats just in time for the holidays. Come learn about the world of chocolate with a hands-on class that will cover how to melt, temper and turn the seeds of a 10,000 year old fruit into delicious candies. Dipping, clustering and decorating are just some of the skills you will practice as you become a candy maker. Bring the whole family and join in the holiday fun. There is a $25 material fee due to the instructor.

Dance Camp

Gymnastics Holiday Camp
Three day Holiday Gymnastic Camp at Hart’s Gymnastic Center, including all gymnastic events, tumbling, tramp, loose foam pit, Wacky World inflatable, crafts, and a Hart’s t-shirt. Campers should bring a sack lunch and a snack.

Fitness, Classes & Events

Bootcamp – Outdoor Group Fitness
This high intensity interval training (HIIT) program incorporates strength, balance, agility, core stability, cardio, and flexibility. The experience will include constant motivation, positive reinforcement, and a fun, safe environment that is perfect for all different fitness levels, ages and sizes. This is an aerobics class for everyone, from beginners to regular attendees. This class is ladies only and will have a focus on the basic Latin rhythms of Zumba. It will still be a fun and up-tempo workout but with an emphasis on mastering primary steps before adding to and building on them. By the end, you’ll be having fun getting a cardio workout with your own fancy footwork. Wear low traction shoes and bring a bottle of water. *LADIES ONLY. Located in the Covington Community Room. Get a 5-class Punch Card for $50.

Zumba Gold
Join us for Zumba Gold! This format is designed for those wanting an exercise program that is fun, safe and functional. The class is designed for people over 55, but is also great for any beginner, or exercise fanatic who has been injured or is recovering from an injury. This is a LOW IMPACT class with fun international music and easy dance routines. *LADIES ONLY. Located in the Covington Community Room.

Adult Beginner Karate
Beginner Karate Class is an ongoing introduction to self-defense for men and women. Students will receive step-by-step instruction to the basics of Karate. Warmup exercises will help increase fitness and flexibility. Practices will teach fundamental karate skills that help develop confidence and positive personal growth. There is an additional one-time uniform fee of $40. *Located in the Covington Community Room. No class on 11/23.

Stroller Strides & Barre
Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre is the perfect workout option for any mom who is pregnant or has stroller-aged children and are looking to get in great shape. Stroller Strides is catered to making it fun for kiddos and showing them that exercise is a part of our daily life and is taught by certified instructors specializing in pre and post natal exercise. Stroller Barre is a unique blend of ballet, pilates, barre, yoga and stroller-based exercises designed to help moms build strength and muscle tone, and improve posture. Register at Questions? Badges and Barbells Weightlifting Club
The King County Sheriff’s Office Foundation (Greater King County PAL) has partnered with the Kent School District at Cedar Heights Middle School to give First Responders and students opportunities to improve their health while also building positive relationships through the “Badges and Barbells Weightlifting Club”.

“Badges and Barbells” is a strength and conditioning program for students and First Responders (law enforcement/corrections/fire personnel) of all skill levels, including adaptive athletes. USAW Certified Coaches help participants identify their goals and adapt the program to meet their individual needs in a positive and supportive environment. There is no need to “get in shape” to get started, because the program will meet you where you are! The program includes basic linear strength progressions using compound movements followed by short conditioning workouts. *Must have student ID card.
