Adult Leaders Being Sought for New Youth Council

The Covington City Council has established a Covington Youth Council and is currently seeking applicants for adult leaders to provide guidance and mentorship to the youth council members.

The purpose of the Covington Youth Council is to involve youth in local government, increase volunteerism among youth in civic affairs, increase communication with youth in the community, involve youth in planning youth activities in Covington, and to serve as an advisory body to the City Council on matters dealing with youth in the community.

Adults who are interested in helping the city to foster involvement of the community’s youth in the process of government and the ideals of public service can request an application to fill at least two non-voting adult leader positions. Applications can be requested by emailing City Clerk Sharon Scott at sscott@covingtonwa.gov. The application period closes at the end of the business day on December 2. City Council will review applications and may request in-person interviews.

The Covington Youth Council will consist of youth ages 15 to 18 that attend school or reside in Covington or within a 3-mile radius of Covington city limits. The Youth Council will join the group of already established city council advisory bodies in Covington including the Planning Commission, the Human Services Commission, the Parks Commission, the Arts Commission, and the Covington Economic Development Council.
